NC Honors Chorus
North Carolina Middle School Honors Chorus is a select group of students chosen from across the state by audition. Many benefits may be gained from the audition process. Students gain both vocal quality and self-confidence. I am certain that I teach many students who are capable of being selected. It is considered quite an honor to be selected, as only 160 of the state's finest singers will be chosen (from approximately 1,000). I believe that Mac Williams Chorus students are as talented as any in the state. What an honor it would be to represent Mac Williams and the Mustang Chorus at the state level. This is not for every student, but for those who would like to take their musical experience to a higher level than can be offered at our school during the regular chorus class.
Students prepare a preselected piece of music (announced each April) and audition at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek next to Campbell University on September 25, 2020. The audition consists of singing the piece of music and reading a short sight reading sample.
The audition piece is learned through rehearsals which are held after school throughout the months of August and September. Students interested may stay for the first rehearsal to “experiment” with the audition piece. If we decide that the audition process is right for them, an audition practice CD will be given to students to participate. The audition fee is $25.00 and should be paid no later than September 5. This pays for the audition fee and the bus ride.
Students selected will attend the NCMEA (North Carolina Music Educators Association) Conference in Winston-Salem November 9-10, 2020 for a rehearsal/performance of various musical selections. These selections must be learned before attending the conference. If selected for Honors Chorus, travel, food, and lodging are the responsibility of the parents. I will be in attendance and supervising during rehearsal.
